About Me

It's all about finding strength from within. It's about learning from the past, persevering in the present and having the ganas, or desire, to flourish in the future. I'm an American, but I'm also Indigenous, Mexican, French and German and that's a wonderful thing. One can't be anything if one doesnt know who they are. For centuries people have been trying to break through barriers and I've gone and continue to go through them as if they dont exist.

Lourdes Galvan Endorsed by Former District 5 Opponents Garcia and Zavala in Runoff Election

posted Monday, 1 June 2009

San Antonio City Council Dist. 5 candidate David Medina "failed" to make himself available to constiuents by ignoring invitations to speak and answer questions at District 5 Neighborhood Associations and other forums...he didn't even attempt to send one of his representatives. So I have to ask myself and other citizens of District 5.... If David Medina found it a waste of time and acceptable to ignore the constiuents of Dist. 5, does Medina and his campaign really believe the people of Dist. 5 will show up for him at the polls? David Medina "failed" to debate Galvan and address constituents and why? I'm not a complete fan of Lourdes Galvan, but at least I know what to expect, and being new to District 5, I will certainly keep an eye open and hold her accountable for what is or isn't done. On the other hand Frank Medina has proven he has nothing to say. Then again, one can't say anything when one hasn't done anything. Get out and Vote District 5.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Lourdes Galvan Endorsed by Former District 5 Opponents Garcia and Zavala in Runoff Election
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Former District 5 City Council candidates John Carlos Garcia and Raymond Zavala have officially endorsed incumbent Lourdes Galvan over challenger David Medina in the upcoming District 5 runoff election on June 13.
"Yes, we were her opponents and both thought that we could do a better job, but that's no longer an option," said Garcia, who had won the endorsement of the Bexar County Young Democrats. "Medina can't match Galvan's experience and the unifying support she has, so the choice is obvious."

Garcia, a 30-year-old business owner, and Zavala, a 62-year-old military retiree, cited Galvan's wide-ranging community support as a critical factor, including endorsements from the SEIU, LULAC, and The San Antonio Police Officer's Association, the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association, the Stonewall Democrats and the San Antonio Board of Realtors. They also noted Galvan's support from District 4 councilperson Phil Cortez, outgoing District 6 councilperson Delicia Herrera, District 7 councilperson Justin Rodriguez and former District 7 councilperson Elena Guajardo.

Garcia and Zavala also took issue with Medina's campaign slogan, "Change you can count on."
"During the campaign, he said he'd make himself accessible to anyone at anytime... but that's just been one in a series of broken promises," said Zavala.  "His lack of responsiveness to the community and the media during the campaign leads us to believe that there's nothing we can count on from Medina," said Garcia.

This lack of responsiveness included Medina's failure to address allegations he hadn't lived in the district for the requisite six months prior to filing to run. Records obtained from the San Antonio Water System for the Winnipeg Avenue address listed on Medina's candidate filing indicated no monthly billing for water and sewer for the requested time period from August 2008 to February 2009. The application was filed on March 4.

"I still believe that District 5 has a bright future and that Lourdes Galvan is by far the best candidate in this election to help us get there," said Garcia.
